Chiropractic

An initial visit is typically 60 minutes in length. Your chiropractor will start by asking questions to form a complete health history and overall current health. They may ask questions about what brought you to the office, how your condition is affecting your day-to-day life, surgeries or traumas you may have had, medications you are taking, diet and exercise etc. It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The chiropractor may perform tests like a blood pressure check, a test of your reflexes, strength and sensation, an analysis of your posture, orthopedic tests, an analysis of your movement and a hands on evaluation of how well your spine moves. Your chiropractor will then recommend a course of treatment specific to your condition. It should be a collaborative conversation on the best course of action for you. If they think your condition is better suited to treatment from another health care provider, they may make a referral. After the two of you decide on a treatment plan, the first visit usually includes treatment that may include spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapy, modalities and/or exercise recommendations.

Initial Visit

Follow-up visits are typically 15 minutes in length. These visits start with a conversation of how your condition is progressing and how you are responding to treatment. Your chiropractor will then perform a quick assessment to find any restrictions as well as any tight/tender muscles. They will then perform the manual therapy that is outlined in your treatment plan. Nutritional counselling, recommendations  for rehabilitation exercises as well as injury prevention may be provided at each visit.

According to the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, re-assessments must be performed AT LEAST every 24 visits. These visits are extremely important to ensure your care is meeting your needs and you are progressing appropriately. This appointment can be informal but should include some of the same testing that was done at your first appointment to show changes that chiropractic care has made to your condition. These appointments are like progress reports and should be a regular occurrence at your chiropractors office. Another opportunity for a re-assessment is if you have not been in the clinic for >6 months or are experiencing a new condition. In these cases it is always advised to allow your doctor to update your health records, perform an exam and update your treatment plan to ensure you are getting the best care possible.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

MLD is a gentle massage technique used to improve lymph flow. Our lymphatic system is a series of vessels that collects, cleans and disposes of swelling and waste fluid throughout the body. Collection starts in the smallest of these vessels which are located in the sin. The gentle skin focused MLD techniques stimulate the suctions mechanism of these vessels, allowing them to vacuum up excess fluid, shortening the healoing/recovery time. The rhythmic nature of this technique also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation and repair) helping to decrease anxiety and increase the immune system. This combination of effects makes MLD suitable for an endless list of ailments, including migraines, sinus issues, chronic illness and injury/surgeries.
